Norfolk. Starting early, we took the road from the Shires into picturesque Rutland, over stark Fenlands, through the lush, expansive forests of Sandringham and on to the peaceful, winding roads of Norfolk heading towards Brancaster Beach.
It’s an easy road trip and one we’ve done many times before, around 2 hours flat, if you use the dual carriageways to your advantage, a real mix of roads for drivers, winding country lanes, long straights, tree canopied roads and sea views.
Norfolk really is big sky country, vast expanses of skies over endless clean sands, rolling waves and nature as it’s meant to be - pure. Brancaster has miles of peaceful sand dunes to get lost in, lie in the gently waving grass and watch the ever changing skies above. Long picnics in Summer, warm coffee and books in Winter, content for hours with space to breathe clean air and clear your mind.
Head along the coastal road to Holkham and the Victoria Inn for a late lunch next to a roaring fire, generous fish goujon sandwiches and fries, a good glass of wine and an indulgent homemade pudding whilst your Labrador lounges in front of the fire.
Wind you way back alongside the walls of the Holkham Hall Estate, through postcard villages with a quick stop in Burnham Market for one last coffee and off home again.
