At a time when us Saabists are waiting to see what NEVS has to offer, I look back fondly on one of my all time favourite Saab concepts – the 9-3 SportCombi unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2004.

When I first saw this a few years ago, I instantly fell in love, but until recently, had only ever seen the odd poor quality photograph. I’ve now found some fantastic images so thought I’d share them with everybody.

I just wish some of the spectacular details had made it into production, the glass roof and power tailgate with the stunning brushed aluminium bike mount for instance, or the in-floor glass storage area, or the interior central ‘clear zone’.

All dreams for now, but maybe SAAB could revisit some of these beautiful details. I haven’t even mentioned the 20″ alloys…

  1. The exhaust looks awesome on that

a little report from on the road back from Monza, car running fantastic
400 mile trip back to Calais for a stop over before the tunnel home early Wednesday
already done nearly 2000miles and had a blast in the Alps. Getting a looks of looks as we drive around in a UK reg 9-3 and even spotted somebody checking out the Hirsch badge today while in Interlaken while eating at Hooters.

    • Love the exhaust too, feels a little like the ones on the new generation 9-5 Aero.

Hoping you’ve taken a few snaps of the journey for us all to see 🙂 And the car deserves admirers.

      Thanks for the note,

  2. Is the colour Parchment Silver they used in the concept car? I have Parchment Silver on my 9-3 sportcombi (2008) and it looks very much the same, an awesome colour it is for 9-3 if you ask me… but what isn’t 😉

  3. I’ve got a few pictures of the 9-3 on the trip if send me an email address I’ll forward them on to you

  4. Great pictures, and details. I see those of the engine compartment and the trunk for the first time. I like the production model’s exterior better, though.

    • It’s the stunning bike mounting system I love so much, wish this could be put into production somehow, but yes, agree, the production exterior is far nicer, especially the current model
