A exceptionally rare factory converted Hirsch Saab 9-5 Aero in the wonderful Smoke Beige Metallic with heated and memory Sand leather interior. This 2nd generation 9-5 is an absolute gem to both own and drive, it feels incredibly tight and can provide either wonderfully relaxed cruising or downright smile inducing fun when driven a little harder.

Whilst preserving the Q car aesthetic on the outside, this particular 9-5 was lovingly converted by Hirsch from factory meaning the modifications made were officially endorsed and warranted by Saab. The list of modifications is impressive including the rare Hirsch hybrid turbo, high flow intercooler, intake system, full stainless steel exhaust and remapped ECU offering 305hp.

The modifications didn’t stop there, the entire handling and braking systems were also modified by Hirsch, with firmer and lowered suspension and larger, 4 pot brakes. Subtle styling changes include the rare mesh front grille, rear boot lip and an ungraded set of 18” alloys now with brand new Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres.

Having been maintained by the highly regarded team at Abbott Racing for most of it’s life, it has genuinely been a beautifully cared for Saab and one of the reasons it still feels so capable 17 years after it left the factory in Sweden.

When I purchased it in 2021, it have been stored since 2018 in a heated workshop and not driven, so it went directly to Malcolm Miles Saab who have given it a thorough maintenance check. the brakes have been taken apart and all cleaned up with new drilled and grooved discs and performance pads to the front, numerous perished hoses have been changed together with a sump drop, clean and fresh oil, filters and fluids. Power seemed slightly lower than expected, so a revised stage 3+ remap has been carried out by Noob Tune and now has the power delivery expected from the Hirsch modifications.

The Smoke Beige Metallic is further enhanced with subtle tinting to the windows, whilst inside the high level Saab specification never fails to impress: factory sat nav and Harman Kardon AS3 audio upgrade, electric folding mirrors, rain sensing wipers and of course possibly to most comfortable heated sports seats ever made. A full Saab carbon dashboard has been fitted including the ashtray and gear surround and a new SID unit ensuring there are no missing pixels or lights.

Driving wise, this Saab impresses; quiet, rattle free, fast and smooth, every bit as refined as most modern executive saloons, yet far more stylish. The HK audio is absolutely superb and fills the cabin with rich sound to help make any journey relaxed and enjoyable whilst handling is transformed with the Hirsch modifications; tighter and more accurate steering, strong acceleration and reassuring braking.

A very special Saab in one of the best colour combinations ever offered in my eyes, it will make someone exceptionally happy and looked after, will last for many, many years to come.
